Chemical testing, built around evidence.

CASSEN Testing Laboratories is a chemical testing laboratory established in 2000. We provide analytical services in support of environmental health evaluation, forensic investigation, indoor and green-building initiatives, occupational health testing, technology-certification testing, chemical characterization, and specialized studies and research projects.

For the past two decades, CASSEN and its key scientific staff have conducted numerous chemical method developments and science-based studies in support of major Government of Canada initiatives — including the First and Second Priority Substances Lists (PSL-1 and PSL-2) under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), the Chemical Management Plan (CMP), the multi-year Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) conducted nationally for Statistics Canada, and flame-retardant migration studies in consumer plastics. We work with consultants, industrial hygienists, building owners, developers, investigators, government bodies, law firms, and research groups across Canada and internationally.

CASSEN is also recognized as the Ontario Ministry of Labour's approved laboratory for conducting analytical work for workplace evaluations.

Technical expertise

Mass spectrometry and chromatography, tuned for the difficult samples.

Thermal-desorption GC-MS

Trace-level VOC detection in air.

One of the most powerful tools for characterizing toxic airborne organics and odorous compounds. Typically resolves up to about 300 compounds in a single indoor air sample — ideal for odour investigations, vapour intrusion, IAQ, and LEED IEQ testing.

Headspace GC-MS

Bulk-material emissions and target analysis.

Used to characterize emissions from furnishings, packaging, adhesives, and consumer products. We support both open characterization of emissions and targeted quantification against specific compound lists.
